Jazz Man was a very special beagle to the Happy Paws family. We rescued him from the Associated Humane Societies shelter in Newark in 2012. Chelsea, our president, went to the shelter to rescue a small, black dog and couldn’t leave without taking the dog’s senior beagle cage mate, Jazz Man. It quickly became apparent that Jazzy was a really special beagle. Though we believe he was about 12 years old at the time, he was spunky and playful. He had a boyish smile that spread across his face and readily welcomed visitors to our adoption events with a classic beagle howl. After fostering Jazz for several months, Chelsea and her husband Mike decided to make him a permanent member of their family. Jazz Man lived out his senior years in the best home a beagle could ever ask for. He was a dutiful big brother to his beagle sisters Abbey and Izzy and a foster brother to dozens of Happy Paws foster dogs. He brought so much joy to Chelsea, Mike, and all who knew him. Sadly, Jazzy passed away in the summer of 2014. He’ll be remembered as the funniest, goofiest, sweetest beagle we’ll ever come across and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

In Jazz’s memory, we’d like to continue to help mature beagles that get overlooked in shelters and, as a result, may be at risk of euthanasia. We know these dogs have so much love to share in their golden years. We’ve set up the Jazz Man Memorial Fund to help pay for the care of these dogs as we are able to rescue them, specifically medical care and supplies as they await forever homes. We will post updates here and on our Facebook page to introduce you to the lucky dogs that benefit from this fund.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping us do this work in Jazz Man’s memory. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization; donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Donations can be made using the PayPal “Donate” button below. Checks can also be mailed to us at P.O Box 411, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. (Please note the Jazz Man Memorial Fund in the memo line.) Together we’re making a difference in the lives of deserving pets like Jazzy.
